About the building

‘A thoroughly sustainable approach to material and energy sources’

Situated on the stretch of Bristol’s docks where ships used to unload barrels of Claret and Sauternes from the vineyards of Aquitaine, the 16,000 sq ft warehouse which is now home to Bordeaux Quay has been stripped and reworked to the most exacting environmental standards.

The Bristol based architects behind Bordeaux Quay, White Design, specialise in the design of integrated, low-energy, low-environmental impact buildings. A commitment to sustainability and zero waste is central to Bordeaux Quay’s beliefs.  The architects and founders of the project have adopted a thoroughly sustainable approach to material and energy resources, reusing and recycling as much of the existing core of Bordeaux Quay’s previous incarnation as possible. Hoists, bar fittings, doors, pipework, blockwork, bar fridges and bar surfaces – even timber cut from the roof while installing skylights  – are all incorporated into the new design.
